Soft Tissue Fillers

FillersWhen we are young, our skin is smooth and elastic with a healthy glow. As we age, our ability to maintain that smoothness and elasticity diminishes, resulting in skin that becomes drier, thinner and less able to replenish itself. Our body's natural collagen and hyaluronic acid levels decrease and our skin becomes looser. This leads to wrinkling and appearing older than we should. Synthetic dermal fillers are injected under the skin to contour and smooth wrinkles, lines or hollow areas of the face.
The most common areas of creasing for treatment with dermal fillers are the nasolabial folds (from the edge of the nostrils to the corner of the mouth) and marionette lines (from the corners of the mouth down to the chin). They are also used to "plump out" or augment the lips and lines around the mouth for a fuller, more youthful appearance.
Soft Tissue Fillers such as Juvederm, Restylane, Perlane are commonly used to fill lines and grooves that have developed in your face because of the affects of gravity.  Most commonly it is used around the mouth in the nasolabial crease or the marionette lines.  It is also used commonly to add ‘volume’ to the lips to add a more natural and youthful fullness.

Soft Tissue Fillers have been used for many years.  The procedures have become more common in the past several years as the Injectable Fillers have improved.  Fillers such as collagen have been associated with allergic reaction and required testing before the procedure.  Additionally, these products simply did not last very long.  Today there are many new options.  Although many product manufacturers imply there product is the “best”, the reality is that there are advantages and disadvantages to each choice.  While we offer many options, most patients get very balanced outcomes with Juvederm or Restylane.   In some appropriate patients, we can use some of your own fat to fill certain areas.
